Lee Chong Wei : Rise Of The Legend
A biopic about Malaysia’s greatest badminton player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei. It begins with a 10-year-old Chong Wei witnessing his neighbours cheering raucously while watching a live broadcast of a badminton game. He proclaims to his father that he dreams of representing the country in badminton but is told to focus on his studies instead. Undeterred, he starts participating in local competitions, where he is spotted by a local coach from Bukit Mertajam, who helps develop his skills. While competing in a competition held by the national team, he catches the eye of Morten Frost, the chief coach who recommends him to the national team. The newcomer has to deal with bullying but it is there that he meets his now-wife, Wong Mew Choo, who provides him with much-needed support. In return, a determined Chong Wei promises to win an international competition to win over her parents.
Ah Qiang lives in the big city and struggles to take care of his mentally unstable mother and his 5-year-old sister, Hui. When a speeding car kills Hui in an accident, Ah Qiang is desperate to claim his sister’s body. Unfortunately, he can’t prove his relation with Hui as she was never registered at birth. Ah Qiang’s mother is no help given her condition. Ah Qiang is forced to face this predicament on his own, even resorting to illegal means.
